Local Member of the Welsh Parliament, Laura Anne Jones, has called on the Welsh Government to take action to prevent flooding on the A4042 at Llanellen.
Recently, Laura Anne Jones asked the Transport Minister what consideration was being given to taking action to protect the road from flooding.
In his reply, the Minister said:
“The Welsh Government carried out drainage works in May 2020 to enhance the existing drainage. This enhancement will help with a quicker recovery and reopening time for the A4042 in the event of a flooding of the carriageway.”
“In recent years, the adjacent land has also been subject to drainage improvements which has helped in reducing the frequency and magnitude of flooding to this stretch of road.”
“There is currently no further drainage work proposed for this stretch of the A4042, but we are continuing to monitor the situation.”
Laura Anne Jones commented:
“Once again, local people have been caused inconvenience and delay by the A4042 being closed due to flooding resulting from Storm Christoph.”
“ I am disappointed that the Minister is not considering taking action to alleviate this problem which recurs on a regular basis and would urge him to look again at measures to tackle this issue.”
