Last week I questioned the Health Minister on The Grange University Hospital A&E department, with people experiencing 18 hour waits just to see a doctor - something I experienced first hand a couple of weeks ago. What I saw was shocking, and not acceptable.
I explained that it was not, in any sense, fit for purpose for the amount of people that this single A&E now serves.
The A&E at The Grange, was never intended to be an A&E, which is glaringly apparent for the positioning and room size.
The Welsh Government need to work with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to get a grip of the situation immediately. The unacceptable A&E waiting times, demand urgent managerial and physical building changes.
The conditions are unacceptable and people in my region of South Wales East should not have to experience them when in pain and suffering.
It was shameful that there was no sense of urgency from the Health Minister, but I will be meeting with the head of the Health Board to see how we can work together to ensure that the A&E needs of my constituents can be met promptly.
Please let me add though, that all the Doctors, nurses and staff were wonderful.
