Welsh Government must update advice on outdoor events

Local Senedd Member, Laura Anne Jones, has called on the Welsh Government to update its advice on holding outdoor events as a matter of urgency.

This follows news that business owners have said the cancellation of this year’s Royal Welsh Show will be felt for many years to come.

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has estimated the cost of cancelling the show at £1.2 million.

Laura Anne Jones said, “The implications of the cancellation of the Royal Welsh Show clearly demonstrate the importance of such events to local communities in Wales.

“However, we should not forget that these consequences are also felt by the cancellation of local shows.

"The Association of Show & Agricultural Organisations has been forwarding guidance on holding Outdoor Events to Welsh groups in this difficult period.

"Comprehensive guidance has been received from the Events Industry Forum regarding starting to get outdoor events up and running but this applies only in England.

"Organisations in Wales wish to know when they can expect the Welsh Government to provide updated guidance on the holding of outdoor events here. Given the importance of these shows to the local economy the Welsh Government must act as a matter of urgency."
