Welsh Conservatives respond to the report and recommendations from the Independent Welsh Pay Review

Commenting on the new recommendations and report, Welsh Conservative Education spokesperson, Laura Anne Jones MS said:

“We welcome this deserved pay rise for Welsh teachers and we should never forget what a crucial role they play in shaping the next generation in Wales.

“However, it’s disappointing to see the Welsh Labour Government forcing local authorities to cover these extra costs, at a time when local government is already under significant financial pressure.

“The Wales Fiscal Analysis estimates that ministers have an additional £2.5bn to spend in this financial year, so the Welsh Government should stop hamstringing local councils and stump up the cash at a time when they need help, not hinderance.”
