Commenting on the news that many students are expected to live' in homes with rats and damp', Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Education, Laura Anne Jones MS said:
“Students’ time at university should be some of the best days of their lives but once again we read these appalling stories of students living in terrible conditions in Wales, which can affect their studies and impact dramatically on their mental health.
“There is no doubt that most landlords take their responsibilities seriously, but for too long rogue private landlords have been exploiting vulnerable students by failing to provide even the most basic standards of living. This cannot continue.
“The Labour Government in Cardiff Bay must work with the appropriate councils and universities to hold landlords to account and make sure that we don’t see such graphic reports like this again.”
