Support for grassroots sport welcomed

Local Senedd Member, Laura Anne Jones, has welcomed news that a new fund has been established to help grassroots sports clubs cope with the Coronavirus crisis.

Sport Wales is launching a four million pound fund to save and support grassroots sports clubs.

Clubs and organisations may apply for grants of between £300 and £50,000 to keep their communities active.

Laura Anne Jones, who is also Secretary of Usk Junior Football Club, said, “I very much welcome the news that Sport Wales is setting up this fund to support grassroots sports clubs at this difficult time.

“I know from first hand experience how important grassroots sport is, not only from a recreational point is view, but also in delivering long term health benefits.

“This funding will enable clubs to take the action required so that the many people that play, officiate and volunteer can keep safe while enjoying all the benefits that grassroots sport brings.”
