Laura Anne Jones MS Welcomes Extension to “Eat Out to Help Out” Scheme welcome

Laura Anne Jones, Senedd Member for South Wales East, today welcomed news that pub operator J D Wetherspoon is to continue offering discounts on meals even though the UK Government’s “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme ended yesterday (31 August).

Lockdown measures introduced in March were vital in saving lives and stopping the spread of coronavirus. However, they had an enormous impact on the hospitality sector.

Laura Anne Jones said:

“The “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme has been a tremendous success having been used over 64 million times, giving people discounted meals, getting people back into local businesses to drive the economic recovery and helping to protect jobs in the hospitality sector.”

“I welcome the news that JD Wetherspoon is to extend the discount scheme across South East Wales until 11 November and I am sure many other pubs and restaurants will follow suit.”

“”Eat Out to Help Out” has kept more money in hardworking families’ pockets whilst giving the hospitality sector the vital boost it needs.”

“I urge diners to maintain the momentum to help continue our economic recovery in the months ahead.”
