Local MS Laura Anne Jones has called on the Welsh Government to stress the importance of vaccination to our ethnic minority communities.
The shadow Minister for Equalities made her call after a poll found that only 57 per cent of people from BAME backgrounds would take the covid-19 jab if advised to do so by a GP compared with 79 per cent of white people.
Laura Anne Jones commented:
“I am very concerned about the findings of this poll which reveals a marked reluctance among ethnic minority communities to take the covid-19 vaccine.”
“It is particularly concerning as BAME communities are more susceptible to catching coronavirus than white communities.”
“There is also an issue with anti-vaccination messages being targeted at different groups, including different ethnic or religious communities, the very groups most at risk of getting ill.”
“With Wales having the worst case rate for infection in the UK , the Health Minister must take action and initiate an information campaign targeted at our vulnerable ethnic minority communities to counter the false information and promote vaccination as a matter of urgency.”
