Laura Anne Jones, Senedd Member for South Wales East, is seeking a meeting with Openreach to express concern about broadband speeds in parts of Monmouthshire.
This follows concerns being raised with Laura from residents in Monkswood, near Usk, about poor internet access in some parts of the village.
Last month, it was revealed that Monmouthshire ranked 28th in the list of places with the slowest broadband average speed in the whole of the United Kingdom.
Laura Anne Jones said:
“Whilst I accept that there will be difficulty in providing adequate internet speed to some of the remoter parts of Wales, it does appear that some communities in Monmouthshire are being left behind.”
“Monkswood is only two and a half miles from Usk and is close to BAE Systems, Monmouthshire County Hall and Coleg Gwent campus.”
“The infrastructure is in place to extend superfast broadband to more residents in this community but I am advised Openreach has said they have no plans to do so.”
“This is understandably causing anger and frustration for many residents and I am seeking a meeting with Openreach to raise this matter and seek plausible answers as to when they intend to resolve the situation to the satisfaction of those concerned.”
